Stuck in a room with no view? No problem! You can create your own view. A room that has an attractive view is invariably more appealing than one that faces scenery that is dull or unsightly. If you are left with a living room or other space with a horrid view, you can easily get around the situation. You can dress up a plain window, paint a wall mural, or even create a faux window in rooms where there are none.

Working With What Youve Got

You need not block off a window that faces an unattractive element, or pretend that the window is not there. Sometimes a home is designed with little forethought, or out of necessity, a room will end up with a horrid view, like the neighbors messy lawn, or a brick wall. But you can redeem the window simply by outfitting it in a way that suits your tastes and preferences. After all, windows are natural focal points within any space due to the fact that they allow light into the room. By hanging a Roman shade in your favorite color, or arranging a small group of glass vases on the ledge of the window, you can use the window to your advantage. You can also make the area appear more inviting and cozy by emphasizing it with a window seat, or play it down by hanging some attractive plants suspended from the ceiling in front of the window.

Murals

If you reside in an urban area and dream of lounging on the sands of a tranquil beach, or strolling on a beaten path through a calming forest, a large mural for the wall can bring this scenery to life. Murals not only add a view that can help you relax, they also become striking focal points within your space.

For the biggest impact, the mural should be the only artwork on an empty wall. The mural might even cover an area of your sliding closet doors, or perhaps run the length of a complete wall. Consider having a mural made from a digital photo image this is a good way to get a life-sized and true-to-life mural. You can also buy murals featuring everything from a garden scene to a nightscape in gay Paris when shopping at online wall dcor retailers. Another option is to hire an expert artist to paint your favorite landscape.

Faux Windows

Adding a faux window on one side of a windowless room can make the room more appeal and much brighter. For a faux window, you can use a poster, enlarged photograph, or painting to form the view that you like. Purchase a readymade window frame at any home improvement or hardware store (or use an old frame that has been repainted or stained). Place this frame over the picture that you choose and then install lighting inside the windows top frame to complete the look.

You can also create a faux window by utilizing a framed mirror. Add wood molding on the mirror to create a crosspiece design element. Top off with dramatic window treatments or even shutters for a unique view that will add visual impact to your room.
