Difference Between A Personal Audit And A Business Audit

The term audit lends itself to a variety of situations that may not be considered when first considered. Most people probably think of the standard IRS audit the process by which an individual s tax return in put into question and their financial background is probed and prodded until their actual body displays soreness. But auditing extends much further than that. In its purest reform, it is nothing more than a review. When businesses refer to audits, this is typically what they are referring to. It is critical that a business audits its own records to ensure their accuracy for ensure that future decisions are made with the proper background information.

Unlike personal finances, where most individuals typically have a pretty good idea of where their bottom line stands without consulting their bank records, businesses are larger entities that contain a number of moving parts that often makes it difficult to determine where the bottom line stands at any given time and (more importantly) where it looks to be at a given point in the future. Having a strong knowledge of your financial standing (both on the macro and micro scales) allows managers to make a variety of important decisions quickly and more confidently than they would be if flying blind.

While the situation being described here would be called an internal audit, this is primarily because it is initiated by the organization looking to be audited. But, objectively, it is often best to have the audit performed by an external third party. Consulting firms can look at balance sheets with fresh eyes and may pick up on things that are just glanced over by internal accountants. They also are less likely to be affected by biases (not necessarily intentional) that are felt by internal accountants towards employees, managers, or projects that they have an affiliation to. Unfortunately, a third party firm is no guarantee of ethical and upright accounting, as proven by a certain big five accounting (who no longer exists) when investigating one of the biggest companies in the world headquartered down in Houston. In that situation, the consulting party had a conflict of interest based upon its ongoing business relationship with the company.

Another reason for a business audit includes keeping an eye on one s employees. The phrase trust but verify may be most appropriate for this situation. Truth be told, some of the most elaborate internal thefts that have occurred in the business world over the years could have been prevented by internal audits. This is more about making sure that controls are enforced rather than spying on employees. There is no expectation of privacy when it comes to the use of company funds.

It is important to understand that, unlike a personal audit, a business audit is a good thing. It is a necessary part of a company s checks and balances system. It is about knowing. It keeps management in the know for where they stand and where they are headed. If the information is properly compiled and used, it helps to ensure good future strategy and gives CEO s the ability to avoid bad decisions.

Wikinews interviews Eric Saussine, director of the James Bond fan film Shamelady

Wednesday, July 16, 2008

The James Bond film series is one of the most popular and successful, having grossed over US$4 billion worldwide. The suave, sophisticated secret agent has secured his place in popular culture as the definitive action hero that has appeared in twenty-three films between 1954 and 2006.

Daniel Craig was announced as the seventh actor to portray 007 in late 2005, making his debut in the 2006 smash hit Casino Royale. While fans await Craig’s second outing in Quantum of Solace, due later this year, they have been able to watch Shamelady, a fan film made by the French film production company Constellation Studios.

Shamelady is a tribute to Ian Fleming, the author of the James Bond novels on which many of the films are based, and EON Productions, the makers of the official 007 films. The film was first released in 2007 and runs just under an hour long. It can be downloaded from Constellation’s website or viewed on YouTube.

Legally, the filmmakers cannot profit from Shamelady, but they didn’t make it for the money, rather the thrill of creating an original Bond film. The plot is fairly simple, and reminiscent of Casino Royale. Bond is sent to a casino to nab a vicious crime lord, but gets betrayed by a fellow agent in the process. Viewer reaction to the film was positive for the most part, and Constellation Studios has now planned a sequel to Shamelady, which director Eric Saussine speaks of in the interview below.

Wikinews (Joseph Ford) Although having made several other movies, Constellation Studios is best known for the acclaimed James Bond fan film Shamelady. Tell us about it.

WN (Joseph Ford) Why did you make this film? Where did the inspiration for Shamelady come from?

WN (Joseph Ford) Last summer, you announced that Constellation Studios is at work on another Bond film, Shatterhand. Tell us about it.

WN (Joseph Ford) Is this the beginning of a series of non-profit fan films? After Shatterhand, can we expect to see more Bond films from you?

WN (Joseph Ford) Do you have any advice for amateur filmmakers reading this?

The winning screenwriters are Alfonso Cuaron, Timothy J. Sexton, David Arata, Mark Fergus, and Hawk Ostby. The Children of Men was James’ 12th book, written in 1992.

For nineteen years, the USC Libraries Scripter Award has honored “writers for the best achievement in adaptation among English-language films released during the previous year and based on a book, novella or short story.” While there are many awards for either screenwriting in general, or adapted screenwriting, the Scripter is the only award to recognize both the screenwriters and the original authors.

Skip Bin Hire- Things to Remember when Hiring a Skip Bin

by

Chris J. Carpenter

Skip Bins are usually large, industrial sized bins that you will often find on construction sites and waste removal trucks. But, there are also skip bins available for business and residential use.

You can purchase your skip bin, but there are companies that hire them out if you only require their use for a limited period of time. You can request quotations from companies in your area, which will also include a fee for the removal of the waste that has accumulated in your skip bin.

Before you hire a skip bin, it is important to know the different types and styles available, which are dependent on, amongst other things, what kinds of waste you will be using the skip bin for. Whether you require the skip bin during renovations at your home, or need it over an extended period of time at your business, there are several uses for skip bins and the type you select will also be dependent on what waste will be put in there. Here are the uses of skip bins for dry and solid waste:

1. Food Excellent for restaurants, grocery stores/supermarkets.

YouTube Preview Image

2. Paper and Cardboards

3. Construction site waste materials like timber, bricks, nails etc.

4. Furniture

5. Confidential documents. If identity security is a big concern for you, this is an ideal method to get rid of all your important documents.

6. Garden waste

7. Electronic waste and electric equipment computers, TVs, appliances etc.

8. Batteries Important:

You may not put any dangerous, toxic or flammable material in your skip bin without clearing it with the company you are hiring from first. If you have selected a first-rate company to hire from, they may be able to assist you in disposing of hazardous materials. But note that there may be an extra cost involved.

Once you know what kinds of materials you will want to dispose of, selecting the size of the skip bin is easier. It is as important selecting the size as knowing what kinds of materials will be going into the skip bin. This is because the company from which you have hired your skip bin will not remove bins that are filled beyond capacity, as they are not permitted to carry and transport unsafe skip bins. To make your life easier, skip bins come with an indicated maximum fill line, demonstrating when you have filled the bin to the maximum amount permitted.

There are many sizes to choose from, and they come in various materials.

The sizes of skip bins are often determined by the amount of volume of materials that they can hold. For example, if you live in the United States, this will be indicated by amount of cubic yards or tons. If you reside in a country that uses the Metric system, volume will be indicated by litres and meters. These will all vary from the smaller garage size mobile bins to walk-in, bulk industrial sized ones.

There are also extra features that come with most skip bins, depending on their size and use. You can hire mobile bins with four attached wheels on them for easy access and maneuverability. The larger bins constructed for heavy waste will not have wheels on them, these are most often found on large construction sites. The mobile bins will often come with chains and lockable bars to protect the waste, this is especially important if the bins will be in areas where there are children, or contains important materials such as confidential documents. If you want to recycle, you can rent several bins for different recyclable materials.

Knowing what kind of skip bin you require for the disposal of your materials enables you to get the best quote and select the right company for your needs. Many of these companies will have websites with a list of the skip bins that they rent, as well as pictures of each type. Remember, included in the quotation should also be the charged fee for the removal of the waste materials. If you plan on renting for an extended period of time, it is possible to haggle for a discount.

Canadian film academy explains lack of Genie nomination for Juno

Comments Off on Canadian film academy explains lack of Genie nomination for Juno

Saturday, March 1, 2008

The Canadian film industry’s major awards night, the Genie Awards, takes place on Monday. The Genie Awards begun in 1949 as the Canadian Film Awards, and current nominations include the films L’Âge des ténèbres, Away from Her, Continental, un film sans fusil, Eastern Promises, and Shake Hands With the Devil.

Notably absent from the nominations is the film Juno, an Academy Award nominee for Best Picture. Most of the lead actors in Eastern Promises and Away from Her were not Canadian, and Eastern Promises was filmed overseas. The leads of Juno, in comparison, are all Canadian, and the movie was filmed in the country, despite the financial backing for the film being from an American source.

In order to be eligible for the Genies, a film must be Canadian, as defined by CAVCO and the CRTC. These are the accepted industry standards for recognizing a film as Canadian.

Ultimately, it’s up to the filmmaker to decide whether to seek Canadian certification. It would not be appropriate for me to speculate about the reasons for a filmmaker’s decision, or why they may or may not qualify.

CAVCO is the Canadian Audio-Visual Certification Office, part of the Department of Canadian Heritage. The CRTC is the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, a communications authority like the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States, Independent Television Commission (ITC) in the UK (excluding Wales), and the Australian Communications and Media Authority.

Comments Off on Wikinews interviews author and filmmaker Peter John Ross

Tuesday, March 25, 2008

Wikinews held an exclusive interview with American author and filmmaker Peter John Ross. The head of Sonnyboo Productions, an independent film studio based in Columbus, Ohio, he has made numerous short films as well as co-directed a feature, the World War II B-movie Horrors of War.

He has also written a book on filmmaking, Tales from the Front Line of Indie Filmmaking. He says that it “combines helpful articles for beginning filmmakers with narrative tales based on my experiences raising money for features and the crazy personalities that invade the world of microbudget filmmaking.”

When asked why he makes movies, Ross replied, “There is no greater thrill than sitting in a room full of strangers watching the stories unfold with flickering pictures and sound. I live for the moments when I can sit there and watch the movies with people I don’t know and really feel how they react to what I wrote or directed or edited.”

Wikinews (Joseph Ford): You’ve made several short films and co-directed a feature, Horrors of War. Tell us about them.

J.F.: Horrors of War was shot entirely in Ohio, which doubled for France and Germany, on a shoestring budget. How did you manage this?

J.F.: You’ve written a book, Tales from the Front Line of Indie Filmmaking. Tell us about it.

J.F.: Why do you make movies? What inspires you to do this?

Punching Bags Provide A Lot Of Physical And Psychological Health Benefits

by

Maggie Z Connors

Back in the day, punching bags were considered as a practice instrument used by amateur and professional fighters for exercising purposes. But lately, a lot more people begun to utilize these cost-effective and beneficial training equipment. Punching bags provide a variety of physical and psychological advantages.

First of all, making use of punching bags in a methodical fashion will help gaining muscular strength, speed and skill. With the right training, you can easily enhance your boxing style and empower your punches and kicks in a rather short amount of time.

The factor that you must think of when selecting a punching bag is that different sizes offer different benefits. Bigger punching bags tend to be more useful in giving you better punch strength as a result of the level of resistance they offer. This kind of larger bags can also be beneficial in enhancing your technique with upper cuts.

YouTube Preview Image

On the flip side, small sized punching bags tend to be less resistant and need fast punching, hence enhancing your agility and speed. Rapid series of blows you will throw when using a smaller punching bag can create wonders when it comes to boosting your agility in a short period of time.

On top of the physical advantages we defined previously, punching bags also offer mental health benefits. To start with, the actual act of pounding a thing (that wont be harmed or damaged) is definitely a harmless approach to blow off some steam. Given the high levels of stress in our everyday lives today, the ability to show our frustration or anger in that civilized and secure way is a superb opportunity.

And the other emotional benefit of regularly using a punching bag will be the enhancement of your self-confidence. When you gain power and quickness through routine exercises, and as your health gets better, it will simply be natural for you to actually feel more self-confident and much less worried. In addition, regular training will strengthen your muscles and make your biceps look in far better shape; and it is a widely accepted reality that external attractiveness definitely boosts morale and confidence.

Now that we proven that we can make use of punching bags for a lot of objectives other than professional boxing, lets talk a little about models and brands on the market. There are mainly 2 kinds of punching bags available in the market. Hanging bags and free-standing bags. Free standing bags are usually preferred if there aren\’t any convenient spots to hang the punching bag, and if the person needs to perform kicks in addition to punches. If that is not the case, a hung punching bag could do nicely.

Another differentiating aspect would be the actual materials which the punching bag is made from. The most typical types are made of either vinyl, canvas or leather. Although vinyl and canvas models tend to be somewhat less costly, they\’re also considerably more susceptible to cracking or breaking because of the beating they are going to take. Leather-based punching bags on the other hand, though a little more expensive, provide outstanding resistance and sturdiness.

In order to begin training with a good punching bag to achieve the physical condition you want, you could shop around a bit on the web, take a look at well established and well-known brands such as an Everlast punching bag plus a number of other brands, and get ready to throw some punches to the punching bag of your choice.
