Techniques Of E Recruitment For Your Organization?

April 12th, 2023

What is e-recruitment?

Also known as online recruitment, in e-recruitment, most of the hiring part is done through online methods using web-based tools and techniques right from start till the end. Since the emergence of COVID e-recruitment has become a major source for theRPO Companyrecruiters to get a candidate on board. Also, various organizations have started to adopt e-recruitment techniques, training their HR managers and recruiters for the same.

The process of e-recruitment follows the posting of job vacancies on various job portals and also the social media platforms such as LinkedIn. The candidates can apply for the relevant job profile through email or call after which they are tested for the skills through an online pre-employability test/aptitude test. Once all this is done then the interview process is also conducted online only after which the candidate is selected for onboarding or the final interview with the department head. So, the entire e-recruitment method involves selecting, screening, skill test, and also the interview process that is completely online (using online tools and platforms).

Bring Authenticity To The Occasion With Historical Costumes

April 7th, 2023

By Don Reynolds

There are many occasions where historical costumes introduce that touch of authenticity that is essential to project the right atmosphere. Take a Renaissance Fair, for example. It would be pointless if everybody was wearing 20th century clothing, as it is the clothing of the period that gives people the sensation of actually being there in the Europe of the 14th – 17th centuries.

Nor would a Civil War reenactment seem very authentic without the participants wearing the military tunics of the period. Not only that though, because even the 19th century jewelry, accessories and armaments add to the excitement and the feeling that you are actually there as an onlooker, watching the dancing and the battles actually take place. Naturally, historical costumes such as these are often made by the participants, but they are also available to buy online.

Anne Boleyn gowns, capes and hats are available online, or if you prefer to be more European than English, then you can purchase gowns worn by the ladies of Florence or Anjou during the Renaissance period. For something not so specific, there are gowns worn by typical renaissance maidens, dresses worn by the ordinary people of the day or even a peasant’s blouse. Accessories include a farthingale, women’s leather boots, capes and hats, and elegant costumes suitable for empresses, queens or princesses.

For the men there is a selection of swordsmen’s shirts, doublets and leather pants along with the authentic boots to go with them. Naturally, you can also purchase the swords, daggers and weapons that people would carry with them in these days – not unlike today, though then it was legal!

For Civil War reenactments you can purchase just about anything you can think of, from the traditional kepis to the full uniforms, belts and sashes. Many people are so traditional that they dress in the exact costume for the regiment they purport to serve in, down to the exact number and design of buttons and even the traditional stitching, but such realism is a bit too expensive for most people.

All historical costumes are not restricted to just the Civil War and the Renaissance period, however, and there is a much wider selection available to those that want them. Traditional Scottish costumes, for example, include the traditional early kilts for the men, with the correct shirts and sporrans. There is also the William Wallace great kilt that covered the entire body, with an accompanying belt.

For the women there are a number of underskirts, skirts, chemises, bodices and kilts available, and for all of these there are also some tradition accessories such as horns, belts and sporrans. If you want to look traditionally Scots, then you most certainly can.

If you want to go right back to the Crusades of the Medieval period, you can purchase tunics, capes and robes, including Hospitaller and Knights Templar capes and tunics. From the Medieval period you may also acquire a number of different gambesons, brigandines, gowns, capes and tunics, plus boots and shoes of the period. For those preferring to be peasants, there is a selection of tunics and drawstring pants to choose from. You can even dress up like Robin Hood or Maid Marion if you prefer.

If you want to go right back to the Viking period in history, you can purchase a genuine reindeer skin (from the Lapps that breed and kill them for food like we do sheep and cattle, and not for the fur) or a complete Viking outfit for the men, and Scandinavian princess costume (for the ladies of course).

However, not all costumes available online are historical, although it could be argued that the Star Wars costumes on offer are historical costumes, in that the events in the movies took place ‘long, long ago’. So if you want to dress up like Anekin or Luke Skywalker, Hans Solo or Obi-Wan Kenobi, then you can choose from a wide range of costumes and footwear.

So, whether you want a historical costume to make an event such as a Renaissance Fair appear more authentic or just because you want to dress as a Roman gladiator, there is a wide range available online, limited only by how much you are prepared to spend. However, in addition to that more historical purpose, you can also acquire costumes of a more specific nature.

Take Harry Potter, for example. There are now Harry Potter costumes available that enable people to look like their favorite characters, Harry himself, or perhaps the dreaded Voldemort. Or maybe your kids, or even you, want to dress up for Halloween with a witch’s costume, or perhaps as a warlock or wizard. There is a fabulous selection available. Hardly historical costumes, but great fun nevertheless.

Politicians begin campaigns for Flint, Michigan replacement mayor

April 4th, 2023

Wednesday, March 4, 2009

Several candidates have announced their intent to run in the special Flint, Michigan mayoral primary election scheduled for May 5, 2009. The primary election was called to fill the remainder of resigning Mayor Don Williamson‘s term ending in 2011. The two candidates with the most votes will face off in the August special general election. Each candidate will need to collect at least 900 signatures of registered Flint electors in twenty day to qualify for the May 5, 2009 ballot.

Location of Flint (red) within Genesee County, Michigan (orange).

On the first day petitions were available, the City Clerk’s office handed out petitions in the morning to Aron Gerics, Dayne Walling, Sheldon Neeley and Brenda Clack. Gregory Eason, Waseem (Sam) Fakhoury, Theodore P. Jankowski, Eric Mays, Devona Watson and Darryl Buchanan picked up petitions later in the day. Stephanie Robb Martin, a Flint Board of Education Trustee was one of eight more potential candidates that pick up petitions since then.

Darryl Buchanan, former City Administrator and “Deputy Mayor”, announced he is the running for the office of Mayor on Tuesday February 17. Williamson just replaced Buchanan as City Administrator on February 4, keeping him from succeeding Williamson as Temporary Mayor upon his resignation. Buchanan served as the city ombudsman and councilor before becoming city administrator. He believes he has good relations with the city council and was critical of Williamson’s combative relations with the council.

Buchanan supporters believe that Buchanan has the experience for the position of mayor. While some residents and a political analyst, Bill Ballenger, editor of Inside Michigan Politics, believes that his role in Williamson’s administration and their friendship hurts his candidacy.

Downtown Flint

Sheldon Neeley, current city councilman for Ward 6, announced his candidacy. Neely stated he will open three offices last week. Already, Sheldon Neeley has returned his petitions Thursday with 1,100 signatures to the City Clerk’s office.

Dayne Walling, who narrowly lost to Don Williamson in the 2007 general election, previously announced that he was running if the recall election against Williamson was successful. On Thursday, Walling officially announced he was running at a “Working for Change” rally at the YMCA.

I’ve realized for the past few years, Flint has been held hostage to progress. I just can’t take it anymore.

Genesee County Commissioner Brenda Clack served as Michigan 34th District State Representative from 2002 to 2008 switching positions with former Flint Mayor Woodrow Stanley.

Aron Gerics, a Mott Community College student and a Mott’s Workforce Development Program program assistant, intends to run for mayor. As a write-in candidate for the 2008 49th District House seat election, Gerics lost to Lee Gonzales, D-Flint Twp, the incumbent.

Gregory Eason is a former CEO for Jobs Central Inc. and a Williamson critic. Eric Mays is a political activist. Devona Watson is retiree and long time resident. Theodore P. Jankowski served in the Marines and produces a show for public access television.

City Administrator and Temporary Mayor Michael Brown stated that he will not run as he wants to focus on city business, and is slated to deliver the annual state-of-the-city address.

“He’s not just keeping the seat warm until someone else takes over,” Brown’s communications director Bob Campbell said. “There are some difficult decisions ahead, most notably in the area of the city’s finances. He’s all about the revival and renewal of the city of Flint.”

Additional public officials are considering entering the race including former County Commissioner Raynetta Speed and Councilman Scott Kincaid. State senator John Gleason D-Flushing is pondering a moving into the city to run.

On Tuesday, March 3, Darryl Buchanan, Brenda Clack and Gregory Eason all turned in their completed nominations to the city clerk’s office.

Venezuela opens granite processing facility in Bolívar

Monday, February 18, 2013

Venezuela’s government has opened a granite processing plant in the state of Bolívar, with the intention of providing about 25% of the granite required nationwide.

Ricardo Menéndez, vice president of the Productive Economic Area, said Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez has yearned for the creation of this project to empower Venezuelan construction. Granito Bolívar is reportedly the most modern Venezuelan granite plant, not consuming community water or electricity, and is also the largest, with a daily capacity to supply enough material for use in construction of about 820 houses.

Menéndez said, “These granite blocks are the natural resources of our country, are the wealth we have as a country and often [some] simply decided to remove this richness from our country and take them to other countries” ((es))Spanish language: ?Esos bloques de granito son la riquezas naturales de nuestro país, son las riquezas que tenemos como patria y que muchas veces sencillamente esas riquezas decidieron sacarlas de nuestro territorio nacional y llevarlas a otros países.

According to Menéndez, with the help of a state plan, Venezuela intends to exploit its 40,000 million cubic meters or more of granite reserves, generating a set of factories. “[T]he central theme is that these plants, all these factories, are for the construction of socialism; that means using our potential, develop the value chain within the country and of course that yields benefits from the point of view of the production system’s organization…. [Granito] Bolívar is not only the vision that historically we had of exposing richness, but the industries, basic industries we have, that level of our workers in the basic industries and in addition the development of the potential we have in the state” ((es))Spanish language: ?el tema central es que estas plantas todas estas fábricas son para la construcción del socialismo, eso significa utilizar nuestras potencialidades, dessarrollar la cadena de valor dentro del país y por supuesto que eso genere beneficios desde el punto de vista de la organización del sistema productivo …

For the construction of the plant, supplied by 23 quarries, the government of Bolívar provided about 30 million bolívares (US$4.7 million) and the national government €2.3 million (US$3 million). Bolívar reportedly has reserves of about 40,000 million tons of red, black, pink and white granite, sufficient for domestic demand for 200 years.

eBay Australia to only permit payment via PayPal

April 2nd, 2023

Saturday, April 12, 2008

The eBay logo

On the back of new restrictions being imposed on eBay users in the United Kingdom requiring that sellers offer PayPal payments for all sales, eBay Australia is mandating that only PayPal payments will be acceptable as of June 17. PayPal is a wholly-owned subsidiary of eBay, and charges a 30¢ transaction fee, plus a commission between 1.1% for high volume traders, and 2.4% for low value or low volume traders. These higher costs will be passed onto buyers.

Cash payment on pick up will be the only other payment option, and it may only be offered in conjunction with PayPal.

eBay has brought in this restriction under the guise of improving customer protection, bolstering its “Paypal Buyer Protection” insurance programme to allow claims up to A$20,000 instead of the previous maximum of $3,000, however as of June 17 many of the items which would exceed $3,000 are no longer covered by the programme, such as services, vehicles, real estate and businesses.

eBay Trust and Safety director Alastair MacGibbon said this change was not in response to the once-off fund established in March to refund eBay buyers who lost their non-existent holiday accommodation packages from the Melbourne eBay seller Robert Kobis. Mr MacGibbon said “It is part of a much larger initiative”.

In addition to these measures, Paypal will be withholding funds from some sellers for 21 days

.. until the earliest of the following occurs:

 • the buyer leaves positive feedback,
 • 3 days after confirmed item delivery
 • 21 days without a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal filed on that transaction

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has held discussion with eBay, but declined to comment. The Australian Consumers Association spokesman Christopher Zinn said the unique use of PayPal could give rise to competition issues, however if the costs charged stayed as they were, they had no further concerns.

Inspectors close Chicago landmark Healthy Food restaurant after finding dead mouse in cooler

April 1st, 2023

Saturday, April 2, 2005

A dead mouse was found in the cooler, and feces was found on the meat slicer and cutting board. (file)

Chicago city inspectors closed the landmark Lithuanian restaurant Healthy Food on Thursday, after finding mouse feces on the meat slicer and cutting board, and a dead mouse in the cooler.

The restaurant has operated at 3236 S. Halsted, on the south side of the city in the Bridgeport neighborhood, since the 1930s.

Wikinews reporter David Vasquez placed a call to the restaurant to inquire if they were open. The call was answered by a woman who said, “No, we’re closed. There’s some technical difficulties. I’m sorry. Thank you for calling.” A second phone could be heard ringing in the background.

Streets and Sanitation spokesman Matt Smith told the Chicago Sun-Times, “To reopen, they’re going to have to present us with a revamped game plan for not only rodent control but also housekeeping, they’ll have to make all the corrections that our inspectors point out,” he continued, “and pass a very stringent follow-up inspection.”

Patrons have praised the restaurant’s sauerkraut soup and other dishes over the years. Before it was closed, the restaurant had a lot of traffic from the nearby Cook County Circuit Court. The restaurant was once voted “Best Ethnic Eastern European Restaurant in Chicago”, according to New City.

Is it Possible to Cheat with ExamSoft?

by

David Schnabel

Exam takers often wonder whether exam security systems can be breached. As a provider of such a system, ExamSoft implements both cheating prevention and post-exam cheating detection systems. While it is impossible to know how many instances of potential cheating have been prevented, our staff and systems have been responsible for helping our clients identify or confirm cases of illicit behavior after the fact. This role is not always popular. In particular, we are often asked why we use techniques to lock-down laptops and prevent access to outside tools or applications. We use such techniques specifically because we are trying to help exam takers, including students and professionals.

Moving an exam from a pen-and-paper format to a computer-based format seems very natural, particularly in todays technology-centric world. However, it is fraught with challenges for administrators. ExamSoft seeks to give exam takers the benefits that come with technology, while satisfying the needs and concerns of the test administrators.

ExamSoft provides the opportunity for exam takers to leverage their own laptops and/or institutional computer labs (depending on the institutional clients choice) to take their exams. The idea is to give exam takers one or more of the following opportunities:

To type their essay answers rather than write them by hand; depending on the specific exam, this might come with certain computer-based tools such as cut-paste or spell-check

To receive score results more quickly than is typically possible with bubble-sheet or blue-book systems

To receive detailed, personalized exam performance feedback, to guide future study or personal development efforts (i.e. get personal emails)

To have their digital answer files regularly backed up during the test, to mitigate risks of potential data loss

To have exam questions that are evaluated/measured for validity and fairness

To test in a location that is as convenient as possible (as opposed to a remote, locked down testing center, for example)

To go green

The student or exam taker preferences often pose challenges for schools and other institutions. Exam administrators want to provide exams that are fair and valid. This means that they need to remain vigilant to prevent security breaches and find security vulnerabilities. It is a continual effort since there are always a small, but impactful number of people looking for ways to cheat or exploit any security system. Unfortunately, this means that the actions or potential actions of a few, impact the experiences of the many who simply want to study for and perform as well as they can, honestly, on their exams. ExamSofts staff comes to work every day, trying to find ways to improve the experience for all exam takers, while also trying to stop the small number of cheaters from impacting the whole bunch.

If you ever encounter anything that might help us improve the user experience or security level, for the benefit of all exam takers, please let us know. We really want to help and we work to improve each day. We can be reached at support@examsoft.com or 954-429-8889.
