Hewlett-Packard to expand partnership with SAP

Tuesday, January 30, 2007

This Monday Hewlett-Packard is to announce that it is expanding its partnership with SAP. The partnership will be working with NetWeaver around several new services. The company is also expected to mention about its new enterprise solutions that are currently in development.

Hewlett-Packard will offer its clients services for upgrading servers, storage and NetWeaver – SAP’s application builder platform meant for integrating business processes throughout different systems. Among other services that the company is going to provide comprise assessment, governance and some architecture services for R3.

The manager of Worldwide Packaged Applications for Enterprise Applications Services at HP Services Consulting & Integration, Tim Treat, stated that the company first of all looks at servers, storage and management and only afterwards it makes a proposal regarding the things that are to be updated. He mentioned that when Hewlett-Packard will work on upgrading servers and management, it will turn its attention towards Intel.

After performing all the upgrades, the company is going to offer its clientele a variety of services package options that are related to NetWeaver. The services offered by Hewlett-Packard will include: enabling the service, design and implementation, application development and management.

Tim Treat said that adaptive infrastructure is one of the company’s new things that are to come. Recently the company’s clients have put in place enough hardware capacity and infrastructure with the goal of supporting peak or quarter-end processes. However, a big amount of that capacity is unused till peak times. This is why Hewlett-Packard looks forward to bring solutions that are to allow users pay for the things they really use.

Treat also outlined the fact that, besides its new services, the company is to announce business-process consulting together with IDS Scheer – software and consulting company, which is one of the leading providers of Business Process Management and IT solutions.

Great Choices For A Cost Effective Full Color Postcard Printing

Submitted by: Stan .Coyle

There is no question about it. Full color printing for postcard mailing is the least expensive way to undertake an aggressive advertising. And while you can relax a bit because you save a big part of your marketing expenses, you d be more surprised to realize that there are other little-known alternatives in printing postcards that could help you save even a lot more. If you ve been outsourcing your postcard marketing campaign for quite a while, you might as well hear these choices so next time you sit with your printing company for another round of postcard delivery, you could at least bargain for inexpensive postcards.

Firstly, postcards do not necessarily require full color printing all over them. While it could make the postcards visually appealing if they are printed with rich colors it doesn t mean that you have to color them on both sides. For example, you can ask your printing company to use the full-color feature only on the front side, and leave the other side in a white background. This will not hurt your marketing efforts as it is safe to assume that your readers do not really place importance on the back cover when they were already endeared by the front teasers. This way, you can negotiate for a lower postcard price per piece.

Secondly, full color printing postcards work very well with glossy papers. It provides a unique and sophisticated look on the postcards. However, it will not be a bad deal, too, if you prefer to have the postcards glossy on the front portion only while you choose an ordinary and relatively cheap class of paper at the back. If you ve been sending out postcards all in glossy papers, you would be amazed at the big reduction of cost when you choose the method just mentioned.

Thirdly, whether you have a postcard in full color printing on a large size custom-made paper or in small one, the winning effect is still the same. Ask your printing company on how you could maximize a smaller-sized postcard than the previous ones, without compromising the quality of your marketing campaign. This could significantly earn you some savings. So chat with the one in charged with the printing and ask about the possibility of using smaller postcard templates.

Fourthly, you should also be able to talk with your printing firm about other avenues which will allow you to net on savings. For instance, you might want to know about a less costly full color printing arrangement when the delivery turn-around of the postcards is made on a long-term basis. Compared to the expensive and rushed postcard orders, it can earn you a nice cut on your postcard marketing expenses. But you have to choose first a specific postcard promotion that is not tied up with an immediate season.

Just when you are thinking about scrapping altogether your postcard marketing, you might want to meet with the printing outfit first and discuss on the cost-saving ways mentioned above. You d be delighted to hear a lot of possibilities to make your marketing efforts cost-efficient but still highly-effective.

Tuesday, November 21, 2006

Buffalo, New York —Buffalo, New York developers have been stymied by old real estate deeds.

The prospective Elmwood Village Hotel may be scuttled and businesses now located there may be forced to move.

Frustrations over property located in an area once known as “Granger Estates” circulate around a clause in the original deeds over land divided by then-owner Erastus Granger in the early 1800’s.

According to the documents, “no business establishment of any kind whatsoever” shall ever be constructed on the property, and they shall forever be exclusively for residential use only. Also prohibited are barns, farms and stables.

Sam Savarino, CEO of Savarino Companies, the prospective hotel developer, announced that his legal research team found the restrictions on properties located between 1109 and 1121 Elmwood Avenue which also stated in part that “no businesses, hospitality establishment of anykind whatsoever” shall ever be permitted to be built on the property.

Savarino, whom is expected to contest the restrictions, said that his company could have ignored the findings, but that, “we can’t risk the future of a multimillion-dollar project on the hope they wouldn’t be discovered. Our opponents would have had a field day if they’d surfaced after the fact.”

Savarino said his attorneys and researchers are anticipated to determine “exactly what weight the restrictions carry and if there’s a way for the courts to negate them.”

Existing businesses are also jeopardized.

Hans Mobius, owner of some of the restricted properties upon which a carriage house is built, said, he wasn’t aware of any restrictions, and “never had a reason to research the deed and title documents.” He confidently added that, “the lawyers can get this taken care of.”

Other threatened businesses include Don Apparel, H.O.D. Tattoo, Forest Plaza Art Gallery and Allentown Music.

Is Back Pain Treatable? How Is It Related To Sciatica?

Another problem withback pain is that it is like an on-off switch. It can happen once and for a very long time. On the other hand, there is a possibility that it might not happen again for years and someday might come up as something more violent and devastating. Hence it is in the best interest of people to go for rather preventive measures than curative measures. However, there is hope. Back pain is curable and can be done if proper discipline and medication.

Back pain can be treated in a number of ways. It solely depends on the nature of pain which is a deciding factor about the cure. So if it is normal back pain that gives a tingle to your muscles, it can be cured easily using rest, massage, and acupuncture to speed up the process. You can buy the best massage chair after going through reviews of best massage chair consumer reports. It takes a little amount of effort and can be done as many times as needed for back pain. It is also useful in the cases where complete back from top to bottom pain is occurring as well as in cases where only lower back pain is occurring.

There are also other causes ofback pain which should be considered. Consider sciatica. sciatica is a kind of back pain but is rarely connected with the muscles. In fact, it is caused because one of the nerves, the sciatic nerve is actually bulging out, called nerve pinching or is compressed, called nerve compression. Both of these conditions create unbearable and painful circumstances.

In this kind of back pain, the lower back is severely under pain as well as the back of the leg, commonly the hamstring area is also in a lot of pain. It starts with a little bit of tingling effect, as explained by the top surgeons, and then it goes on up to pain till the thigh area. Apart from that, the pain further aggravates the toe and that is the reason most of the sciatic conditions are treated when they are aggravated.

This is because earlier it is seen as normal back pain. Hence people usually do not take it as seriously as they should. Hence it leads to fatal conditions like sciatica. it can be treated by surgery. Surgery is needed in cases where nerve pinching and nerve compression occur because of a disc failure, commonly known as a slipped disc. Hence it is useful there. However, if direct nerve pinching and nerve compression have occurred because of the contraction of the nerve vessel, it can lead to situations such as chiropractic treatment. Chiropractic treatment has a lot of potentials since it saves us from the recovery period needed after surgery as well as other factors.

Philippines’ largest television network shut down by government

Wednesday, May 6, 2020

Following the expiry of broadcast corporation ABS-CBN’s legislative franchise, the Philippine government issued a cease and desist order dated yesterday, forcing the shut-down of broadcasting operations by the company. Later in the evening, the network signed off and went off-air. The last time the Philippine government ordered the network to shut down was during the martial law imposed by former Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos back in 1972.

Republic Act No. 3846, also known as the “Radio Control Law”, states “no person, firm, company, association, or corporation shall construct, install, establish, or operate a radio transmitting station, or radio receiving station used for commercial purposes, or a radio broadcasting station, without having first obtained a franchise therefor from the Congress of the Philippines.” Since ABS-CBN’s legislative franchise, Republic Act No. 7966, expired on Monday, the network no longer had a valid franchise to continue airing their programs. The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) issued a cease and desist order to the network yesterday, and in compliance, the network signed off that night.

The network tried to renew their franchise as early as July 2019, but all eleven of the legislative bills filed have been stuck in Congress. The franchise of ABS-CBN expired on Monday, the same day Congress reconvened after their Lenten Break, which began on March 13. Though the NTC is allowed to provide the network a provisional license while its application to the Congress is still being decided upon, the commission refused to provide the network with said license. A number of Senators condemned the act of the NTC, citing the move as a “grave abuse of governmental power” and “contrary to law”.

ABS-CBN Corporation is the largest television and radio broadcasting company in the Philippines with over 42 television stations, 10 digital channels, and 18 FM and five AM radio stations, and has been broadcasting for over 65 years. Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte threatened the network’s franchise renewal before, after the network didn’t carry some of his campaign commercials, which they’ve said was due to a lack of airtime, and he accused the network of “swindling”. Solicitor General Jose Calida filed a quo warranto petition on February 10, accusing the network of violating its franchise. After a Senate hearing was conducted on February 24, the Senate did not find the network had breached laws, nor its franchise terms. ABS-CBN CEO Carlo Katigbak said refunds for Duterte’s unaired political ads were offered, of which some were not accepted by his campaign. Katigbak apologized to Duterte during the hearing, which the President accepted according to a statement by the Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.

The network’s news channel, ABS-CBN News Channel, is still on air, as the network claims the cease and desist order did not cover their news channel’s franchise.

Curious death befalls collaborator days before movie release

Saturday, February 11, 2006

Alan Shalleck, 76, associate in the children’s book series Curious George, was found dead in his driveway 8 February 2006. Covered in black garbage bags, his body had been disregarded by neighbors and passersby who presumably mistook it for a collection of refuse.

Speculation has risen around the case due to the seemingly odd coincidence of Shelleck’s death with the Curious George film’s Friday release. As of yet, investigators are not releasing any solid information involving the case.

A Boynton Beach, Florida Border’s Book and Music store employee, Shelleck had been missing from work for two days prior to the discovery of the body by Burt Venturelli, a maintenance worker at the retirement complex Shelleck called home.

Venterelli told Sun-Sentinel reporters “I went to drag it this morning and said, ‘This is a body, this isn’t garbage.”’ He also stated that Shelleck’s body was naked from the waist up and that there was “blood all over the place.”

Dentist Does More Than Just Drilling And Filling}

Submitted by: Abigail Aaronson

Nobody wants to see the dentist, and why is that exactly? It probably has something to do with drills and your mouth. But what most people don’t realize is that he can fix your dental problems without any drilling whatsoever. New methods available meant that he can fill gaps, whiten teeth and even replace missing ones, all without the drill. Whatever problem you suffer from, your dental surgeon has the answer.

Fill ‘Er Up

Holes in your teeth? This is not a good state of affairs. Luckily, cosmetic dentistry offers inlays and onlays to fill up those holes. No more wind whistling through your pearly whites!

Inlays and onlays are made of porcelain. This easy treatment can be done in just two appointments. At the first one, the physician makes a mold and gives you a temporary inlay to wear until the permanent one comes. At the second visit, they put in the new inlay and you’re ready to go. It works a lot like metal fillings, but porcelain won’t stop you at the airport security scanners.

Treat Your Chipped Chompers

Teeth are easier to chip than most folks realize. It just takes one slight misjudgment with a bottle, or some good-natured rough-housing getting a little out of hand, and WHACK – your smile tells the world you’re a careless idiot.

For these little disasters, cosmetic dentistry offers composite bonding. This is another technique for filling gaps and holes, but it’s even easier. He puts in the composite material, which is made of various particles like silicone and quarts, and then uses light to bond it directly. Composites can be sculpted to fill your chips exactly.

Nobody Likes A Yellow Smile

Tooth discoloration strikes most of us at some time throughout our lives. It’s all the food and beverage we consumer over a lifetime, and there’s not much you can do to prevent it, no matter what those toothpaste ads say.

That’s why there’s whitening. These days, whitening has become ridiculously simple. In just a few treatments, you can have that sparkly white movie star smile. There are a variety of treatments, but most involve your dentist putting a tray in your mouth with some goopy gel, and after a few treatments, your teeth will shine.

Using Implants

Get a tooth knocked out of your head? Maybe it’s time to give up playing hockey… But don’t worry this isn’t the end of your smile. Through a variety of methods, your dentist can now get your smile back, using implants.

Dental implants use an artificial root to connect a new tooth so that your smile doesn’t have to suffer. These implants are generally better than traditional bridgework, and the result is more natural looking. After all, let’s face it: people equate missing teeth with homelessness.

Let your dentist take the terror out of dental work. Get a free consultation with your dentist and see what options are available for fixing your smile. And you hear them warming up the drill, you can always say you have to make a phone call, and slip right out the door.

Acting teacher and director Milton Katselas dies at age 75

Tuesday, October 28, 2008

Acting teacher and director Milton Katselas died Friday at age 75, after suffering from heart failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. He began the Beverly Hills Playhouse in 1978 and taught acting classes there to noted actors including George Clooney and Gene Hackman. Katselas is survived by a sister and two brothers.

Katselas directed an off-Broadway production of Edward Albee‘s The Zoo Story, and received a Tony Award nomination for his 1969 direction of Butterflies are Free. Actress Blythe Danner won a Tony Award for her role in Butterflies are Free under Katselas’ direction. He moved to California to direct the film version of that play, and went on to direct films and television movies. Actress Eileen Heckart received an Academy Award for her role in the film version of Butterflies are Free.

Katselas directed the San Francisco and Los Angeles productions of the play P.S. Your Cat Is Dead! by playwright James Kirkwood, Jr. In his author’s notes in the publication of the script, Kirkwood acknowledged Katselas, and wrote that the plays were “directed with incredible energy and enthusiasm by Milton Katselas, to whom I am extremely indebted”.

Katselas directed the television movie Strangers: Story of a Mother and Daughter, and actress Bette Davis received an Emmy Award for her role in the movie. Katselas taught many famous actors including Michelle Pfeiffer, Richard Gere, Robert Duvall, Jack Lemmon, Al Pacino, Goldie Hawn, Christopher Walken, Burt Reynolds, George C. Scott, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Alec Baldwin, and Patrick Swayze. Katselas was credited with being able to nurture actors with raw talent so that they could develop strong Hollywood careers. He utilized innovative techniques in his courses – one course called “Terrorist Theatre” had a simple premise: successfully get an acting role within six weeks or leave the course.

He grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to parents who had immigrated from Greece, and graduated from Carnegie Mellon. He studied acting with Lee Strasberg in New York at the Actors Studio, and received advice from directors Joshua Logan and Elia Kazan.

Katselas was a prominent Scientologist, and a July 2007 profile on Katselas in The New York Times Magazine observed that some of his students stopped taking courses at the Beverly Hills Playhouse because they felt they had been pressured to join the Church of Scientology. According to the article, Katselas credited Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard “for much of his success in life”, and one of his students works at Scientology’s Celebrity Centre. The article commented that some in Los Angeles view the Beverly Hills Playhouse as “a recruitment center for Scientology”.

Katselas met L. Ron Hubbard after moving to California, and began studying Scientology in 1965. The New York Times Magazine reported that he had reached the level of “Operating Thetan, Level 5, or O.T. V.” in 2007. According to The New York Times Magazine when Scientologists proceed up the “The Bridge to Total Freedom” they learn the story of Xenu, and that: “75 million years ago the evil alien Xenu solved galactic overpopulation by dumping 13.5 trillion beings in volcanoes on Earth, where they were vaporized, scattering their souls.” A Church of Scientology publication, Source, lists Katselas as reaching O.T. V. in 1989.

He is brilliant, and knows me so well as a person and an actress that he gets the most out of me.

Though some actors felt pressured to join the Church of Scientology after taking courses at the Beverly Hills Playhouse, at least one individual felt Katselas was not active enough with the organization. Actress Jenna Elfman left the Beverly Hills Playhouse because she felt Katselas was not committed enough to Scientology. Katselas had previously directed Elfman in half of Visions and Lovers: Variations on a Theme, two one-act plays about relationships that he had written himself. In 1999 Katselas had planned to adapt the script of Visions and Lovers to a film version, and Elfman was set to reprise her role from the play. In an article in Variety about the project, Elfman commented on her experience working with Katselas: “He is brilliant, and knows me so well as a person and an actress that he gets the most out of me.”

Other prominent Scientologist actors who have studied under Katselas include Giovanni Ribisi, Jason Lee, and Leah Remini. According to Rolling Stone, Katselas also recruited actress Kelly Preston to Scientology. Actress Nancy Cartwright (the voice of Bart Simpson), told Scientology publication Celebrity that Katselas motivated her to get more active in Scientology, and she stated she took the organization’s “Purification Rundown” and her life “took off completely”.

Life is an endless unspooling of art, of acting, of painting, of architecture. And where did I learn that? From Milton.

Anne Archer was introduced to Scientology while studying at the Beverly Hills Playhouse, as was former Scientologist and now outspoken critic actor Jason Beghe. Beghe told Roger Friedman of FOX News in April 2008 that “He [Katselas] gets kickbacks”, and that he was brought to a Scientology center by fellow Beverly Hills Playhouse classmate Bodhi Elfman, Jenna Elfman’s husband. In a 1998 article for Buzz Magazine, Randye Hoder wrote “In his class, Katselas is careful not to label anything as a tenet of Scientology, but there is no question that the church’s influence seeps into the playhouse.”

Anne Archer’s husband and fellow Scientologist, producer Terry Jastrow, commented to The New York Times Magazine that Katselas changed the way he experiences life on a day-to-day basis: “I go out in the world and look at human behavior now. I see a woman or man interacting with a saleslady, and I see the artistry in it. Life is an endless unspooling of art, of acting, of painting, of architecture. And where did I learn that? From Milton.”

Actor Anthony Head of Buffy the Vampire Slayer spoke highly of Katselas in a 2002 interview with San Francisco Chronicle: “He’s this wonderfully intuitive teacher and his premise is basically: The only real barriers are the ones we put in front of ourselves. If you say, ‘My character wouldn’t do that’ — bollocks! Ultimately it’s you who wouldn’t say that. Who knows what your character might do.” In the acknowledgements of her 2004 autobiography Are You Hungry, Dear?: Life, Laughs, and Lasagna, actress Doris Roberts wrote: “I thank my friend and acting teacher, the incredible Milton Katselas, for his insights, wisdom, and inspiration, which have helped make me the actress that I am.”

I really care about the craft of acting. It’s absolutely necessary to take the time and patience to really develop an actor.

Katselas authored two books: Dreams Into Action: Getting What You Want, first published in 1996 by Dove Books, and Acting Class: Take a Seat, which came out earlier this month. Dreams Into Action, a New York Times Bestseller, sought to modify motivational acting exercises to the field of business.

In an interview in the 2007 book Acting Teachers of America, Katselas commented on his experiences as an acting teacher over the years: “I have very special teachers here at the Beverly Hills Playhouse—some have been with me for over twenty-five years. I believe that to make a difference over the long haul, we need to train teachers. I really care about the craft of acting. It’s absolutely necessary to take the time and patience to really develop an actor.”
