Good To Know The Different Types Of Termites

by

Melville Jackson

It is normally said that there are 4200 types of termites, of which only 10% are said to be the cause destruction. These 10% of termites are mainly divided in 3 primary categories. Some interesting facts about these bugs are that a colony of termites eats 24hours a day, 7 days a week. A single colony can easily eat upto 10 pounds of wood every week and these bugs cause upto 2 billion dollars worth of damage each year. The most interesting fact about these bugs is that if the total weight of all the termites in the world is calculated then it would be more than the total weight of all the humans.

Citizens living in termite prone areas of US cities like Timonium (MD) and Towson (MD) have to frequently face large scale property destruction due to these bugs. As mentioned earlier there are 3 primary types of termites which cause large scale destruction. These are:

1. Formosan

: Considered to be the most destructive amongst other types of termites, a Formosan colony can be upto 300 feet long with almost 10,000 members. These bugs are classified in 3 separate groups: workers, reproducers and soldiers. The Formosan ones can easily build mud burrows inside building walls. With such a large number of members in a single colony, it can quite easily destroy the foundation of your house within a few months. The best way to prevent Formosan termites is to make sure water flows away from your residence. Also ensure that there are no damp wooden piles near your home. This is the most common type of termites which are found in numerous US cities like Carney (MD) and Timonium (MD).

2. Drywood

: A colony of Drywood termites can have upto 2,500 members. These types of bugs can consume anything from wallpaper and wood to fabric (made from plants) and plastic. Since these types do not require moisture to live, they normally build burrow tunnels in the wood of homes, trees and other buildings.

3. Subterranean

: This type of termites can have upto 2 million members in one colony and like Drywood termites can consume plastic, wallpaper, and wood. The main feature of Subterranean termites is that they need to be in contact with soil and cannot live without moisture.

Tips On Finding A Good Web Designer

Comments Off on Tips On Finding A Good Web Designer

Submitted by: Robert Corter

If you have an offline business, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have a website. In this day and age, if you have a business that does not have a site, people will think you are not up with the times. Besides, a site will help you get your name out there. Finding a legit web designer is hard to do, especially if you do not have any prior experience. In the paragraphs below, we are going to give you some tips on finding a good web designer.

Shop Around

Just as you would shop around for a car, you should shop around for a web designer. You should never settle for the first company you come across, without first looking at other companies and comparing them. When you compare them, you should look at their prices and packages.

Look at Their Site

Go ahead and look through their page. How does their site look? Remember, the company’s website will reflect the type of job they are capable of doing for you. If they have a site full of errors, choosing them as your designer may not be a good idea. The last thing you need is a site that crashes, so make sure you find a smart designer.

Good Designers Offer In-House Hosting

Smart designers will offer complementary, yet affordable web-hosting solutions to go with the site. Top notch firms will be able to offer reliability and excellent uptime. Before you make your final decision, go ahead and compare the in-house hosting package with an independent host and see what the price difference would be. In-house hosting is not a must for a good web designer, but it certainly is a plus.

Top Notch Communication is a Must with Any Company

A good web designer should have top notch communication. They should offer different modes of chat, such as email, Skype and phone. Some of them may offer live chat that is available straight from their site. You definitely do not want to go with a designer who has poor communication. The designer should be available during business hours – Monday through Friday.

Professional web designers go above and beyond in order to satisfy their client. Again, if you do not already have a site of your own, you should consider getting one, especially if you already have a business, even if the business is offline. If you don’t already have a business, maybe you are interested in creating one online? There are many different types of businesses you could start via the Internet, such as video creation, content creation, etc. Also, take note that once the site is made, you can monetize it by using AdSense, affiliates and infolinks.

Snails That Time Forgot

Snails That Time Forgot

by

David Bunch

The little snail was gliding across my table-top-a wisp of twisted lime and a pinch of soft flesh, typifying all the strange personality of his race. He was young-not fully adult, and, like myself, representative of the last, the most recent generation. Shortening the level of my outlook to his, little by little I began to see existence from the eye of a snail. I forgot the common bonds between our phyla-gastronomic, utilitarian, financial, even artistic, and took sheer joy in watching him, trying to pry as deep as I possibly could into his molluscan soul. Life seemed full of purpose to him-a life that, without interruption, extended back to the first snail. This is a truism, applicable to all other living organisms, and far back in the dim early ages of earth life, there lived some creature that today snail and I can call our ancestor.

But the changes that have intervened in the meantime are immeasurably divergent. As my line stretches back my brain contracts, my muscles expand, I drop down on all fours, sprout a tail, develop long ears and snout, my teeth simplify, and insects satisfy my hunger; reptilian characters accrue, my ribs increase; I slip into the water, and looking for the last time upon the land, I sink beneath the surface. Gills mark my rhythm of breath, limbs shrink to fins, and even these vanish, while my backbone, last hold upon the higher life, dissolves to a notochord. At one end of my evolution Roosevelt called me friend-millions of years earlier any passing worm might have hailed me as brother.

My little snail has glided about unchanged through all the ages-through the travails of primitive ape-men, the frightened, nocturnal scurryings of tiny insect-eaters, the splashing of mud-hopping amphibians, the swimming of swift-finned, water creatures, and the wriggling of still more lowly ancestors of the sea. When a nation shuts itself off from other nations behind physical barriers or those of conceit, progress in the best sense ceases; when an individual miser or hermit or egoist lives safe and selfishly, he becomes automatically static. Finally, when a race of creatures develops an ability to clothe itself in impregnable marble palaces, immune to a host of dangers that threaten less armored brethren, there is little need of their changing to meet new conditions.

And so let us compare the past history of man and his mammalian forebears who have fought the fight naked, with the line of gentle, sheltered snails. Ten thousand years have seen the development of what we are pleased to call civilization; ten million years ago man began to be man rather than ape; fifty millions of years saw the first mammals that ever were. Five times this period, or two hundred and fifty million years before 1931, saw genera of snails living and thriving, unchanged from these alive today-at a time when no bird or mammal or flowering plant had yet appeared.

Diy Seo For First Timers

Comments Off on Diy Seo For First Timers

It is not all the time that you have to rely at professionals to do the job for you. If you have the qualifications and the right knowledge as support, you can always learn how to do things on your own. Self tutorials are very gratifying because everything starts from scratch and the gradual improvements towards success are more rewarding. This only goes to show that anyone can achieve greater things as long as the effort to succeed is there.

Some companies have even succeeded in implementing SEO services for their sites, and others may have even come from humble beginnings. Remember that a college degree will never define who you are and what you can achieve. Experimentations can go a long way, and so does the trial and error basis. Thus, if you have a certain expertise for web developing or if you are simply curious with time to spare, a DIY SEO service would do you good.

1. Your web content is very important because it will be one of the factors that will sustain the reader’s interest. Meanwhile, it is also important that search engines can pick up your site while the “spiders” are crawling through the web. Although images and flash animations are indeed catchy, they can t be read so you still have to optimize your content by not hiding potential keywords and using them as often as you can in pages, but only up to an acceptable frequency.

2. In choosing keywords, you should always be wise and discerning. This is not a race to grabbing everything you can to dominate the competition. Remember that online users have different ways of interpreting and translating things, thus queries may vary all of the time. Thus, constant and extensive research should be done on a regular basis by your team so that you can all keep track of the key words that are becoming a hit for certain products and services.

You can even observe the keywords being used by the competition as well. It is helpful in that you will be able to assess which are effective and which are useless in terms of targeting your kind of market.

3. It is also advantageous to join social networking sites since most of the people have accounts there. Now it’s more than just a bandwagon, it has become a community, a way of living. It is best to take advantage of the many types of consumers you can encounter there by being visible to them through your own account and personalized ads that reach the demographics you are trying to aim for.

However, you have to make sure though that despite your present visibility, you should also campaign for account adds or likes. A business is deemed in demand as judged by number of friends it has. Yes, people can use that as a measure of success, so make sure that you can spread news about your existence and gain as much friends per se. This way, when you post updates about your business, a wider scope would also be covered in the promotions.

Again, you can always try SEO for yourself and see how far you can go. If it cannot be helped, professional service providers will always be there. However, you are encouraged to try, because who knows what you’ll be able to achieve.
